Chita

知多木綿
Chita Momen

”Monen" means cotton fabric. "Chita Momen" is one of the most important materials of Japanese traditional products these days. It has been produced for about 400 years. Since Meiji era (circa 1900)people started to  weave with semi-automatic looms. These 100 year-old machinary work much slower than the latest ones, but they are still weaving in old factories.  Of course, the amount of the product is quite small as its speed. Consequently the tension is getting to be comparatively weak and this fluent procedure provides very soft texture and soothing to the touch.

Even if the fabric is so soft, the edge is very straight and stout. It is the notable that the surface is so beautiful. The size is quite narrow, whose width is fixed as 50cm. This narrow fabric is used for Yukata and Tenugui.

All the products have to be checked one by one with hands. If the fabric has productive failure, it would be caused dyeing problems.
People intense about work to pursue their quality of products, it has been inherited since Edo Era (circa 1400).
